YAMAHA YZ 250 1999-2022 +1.60mm OVERSIZE 67.95mm TWIN RING PISTON
Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex (low expansion) Silicon aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are manufactured using either a gravity cast or hydraulic forging process. The material structure is refined using a hi-tech Heat Treatment process with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using CNC machines and software with diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. A new Phosphate Coating offers increased hardness and light surface porosity for superior adhesion and durability. This is a +1.60mm oversize 67.95mm twin ring piston.

Precision Engineering and Durability
Each piston is machined using high-tech CNC equipment and diamond tooling to achieve exact surface finishes. To enhance longevity and break-in performance, these pistons feature a dual-layer coating system:
- Molybdenum Bisulphite Coating: A specialized black coating that significantly reduces friction and assists during the initial break-in period.
- Phosphate Coating: Drawing from Formula One engine development, this coating increases surface hardness and provides light porosity. This improves the adhesion of the molybdenum layer, effectively doubling the durability of the piston skirt coating.
