Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon content depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity casting or hydraulic forging, followed by heat treatment. Machining is done using CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Each piston undergoes manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons feature a Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating is also available, offering increased hardness, surface porosity, and enhanced Molybdenum Coating adhesion for twice the durability. The Vertex Rotax M129 K8 Piston is engineered for high performance and durability in 125cc applications. Designed with a dome top profile and a single ring configuration, this piston is manufactured using advanced materials and precision machining techniques to meet the rigorous demands of racing environments.

Vertex utilizes exotic Low-Ex silicon-charged aluminium alloys, available in 12%, 18%, or 21% concentrations depending on the specific application requirements. The blank parts are created through gravity casting or hydraulic forging, then refined using a sophisticated heat treatment process in an automatic HT implant with water quenching. This ensures structural integrity and optimal thermal characteristics.

Advanced Coating Technology

This piston features a specialized Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating designed to facilitate a smoother break-in period and reduce friction during cylinder operation. Additionally, Vertex incorporates an all-over phosphate coating. Inspired by Formula One engine development, this secondary layer increases surface hardness and adds light porosity, providing superior adhesion for the Molybdenum coating. This combination significantly extends the durability and lifespan of the piston surface.
