Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, followed by a heat treatment process in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Each Vertex piston undergoes manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a black Molybdenum Bisulphite coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating is also available, offering increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating for extended durability. This is a Grade C 71.945mm twin ring piston.
