Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Piston blanks are created using gravity casting or hydraulic forging. Material structure is refined through a hi-tech heat treatment process using an automatic HT implant with hot water quenching. Machining is performed on the latest CNC machines with diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes for each application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. The pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating, developed from Formula One engine technology, offers increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion qualities to the Molybdenum Coating, doubling coating durability. This is a Grade B 66.35mm single ring piston.
