KTM SX 125 1987-1993 GRADE D 54.22mm FLAT TOP
Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex silicon aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, with material structure refined by a high-tech Heat Treatment process. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new, all over, Phosphate Coating is also available, offering increased hardness and light surface porosity for superior adhesion and durability. This piston is 54.22mm flat top.

FULL DESCRIPTION
Vertex 54.22mm Flat Top Piston
Engineered for high-performance off-road applications, this Vertex piston is precision-engineered to provide optimal combustion efficiency and durability. As a Grade D flat top piston with a 54.22mm diameter, it is manufactured using advanced metallurgical techniques to ensure consistent power delivery and engine reliability.
Advanced Manufacturing and Material Quality
Vertex utilizes exotic Low-Ex silicon-charged aluminium alloys, with silicon content tailored specifically for the application. These pistons undergo a gravity cast or hydraulic forging process, followed by a state-of-the-art heat treatment in an automatic implant to refine the material structure. This ensures superior strength and resistance to thermal expansion under demanding riding conditions.
Precision Engineering and Surface Finishing
Every piston is machined using high-tech CNC equipment and diamond tooling, allowing for exact tolerances and specific surface finishes. To ensure maximum longevity, this piston features a dual-layer coating system:
- Molybdenum Bisulphite Coating: Reduces friction between the piston and cylinder wall and aids in a smooth break-in process.
- Phosphate Coating: Borrowing technology from Formula One engines, this coating increases surface hardness and adds slight porosity to improve the adhesion of the Molybdenum layer, significantly extending the durability of the piston.
