Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are produced using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, followed by a heat treatment process. Machining is completed using CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes for each application. All Vertex pistons undergo manual and automatic quality control. Pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating, used in Formula One engines, offers increased hardness and superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating, doubling its durability. This piston has a bore size of 76.98mm and a compression ratio of 13.8:1.
