Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, with material structure refined using hi-tech Heat Treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software, with diamond tools for specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. Vertex has also introduced a new Phosphate Coating for increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion and durability of the Molybdenum Coating. This piston is 76.97mm with a 14.8:1 compression ratio.
