Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. They are manufactured using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes. The material structure is refined using a hi-tech Heat Treatment process in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. This process uses cutting edge technology for these aluminium alloys. The machining process is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes for the final application. Every Vertex piston passes through a rigorous manual and automatic quality control process. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid during break-in and reduce friction. Vertex has also introduced a new, all over, Phosphate Coating which has a slight hardness increase combined with a light surface porosity that exhibits superior adhesion qualities of the Molybdenum Coating, extending the coating durability. This piston is Grade A, 76.95mm, with a 13.8:1 compression ratio.
