Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18%, or 21% silicon content depending on the application. They are produced using gravity casting or hydraulic forging, followed by a high-tech heat treatment with solubilization by hot water quench. Machining is done on the latest CNC machines with diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes for each application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. Vertex also offers a Phosphate Coating that increases hardness and surface porosity for superior adhesion and durability of the Molybdenum Coating. This piston has a bore of 76.97mm and a compression ratio of 13.9:1.
