Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are manufactured using gravity casting or hydraulic forging processes, followed by heat treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using CNC machines and diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes. All Vertex pistons undergo rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. Vertex also offers a new Phosphate Coating for increased hardness and superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating, extending coating durability. This Vertex piston is Grade B, 76.96mm with a 13.9:1 high compression ratio.
