Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on application. Piston blanks are gravity cast or hydraulically forged and then heat treated in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines, software, and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes for each application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. A newer Phosphate Coating provides increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating for extended durability. This is a Grade B, 66.35mm single ring race piston.
