Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18%, or 21% silicon depending on the application. They are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, followed by a heat treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by hot water quench. This process refines the material structure. Machining is done using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating, developed with Formula One engine technology, offers increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion and durability for the Molybdenum Coating. This piston has a diameter of 71.94mm.
