Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex Silicon aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon content, depending on the application. They are produced using either a gravity cast or hydraulic forging process, followed by a hi-tech heat treatment in an automatic plant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. A new Phosphate Coating, developed from Formula One engine technology, offers increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion and durability of the Molybdenum Coating. This piston has a bore of 47.44mm and is a single ring design.
