Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys, silicon charged with 12%, 18% or 21% depending on the application. Pistons are manufactured using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, then material structure is refined using heat treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using CNC machines and software with diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes a rigorous manual and automatic quality control process. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid during piston break-in and reduce friction within the cylinder. Vertex also offers a new Phosphate Coating with increased hardness and light surface porosity for superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating, extending coating durability. This piston is Grade D with a 67.97mm bore and twin rings.
