Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminum alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity casting or hydraulic forging, then refined with a hi-tech heat treatment. This process involves an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is done with the latest CNC machines, software, and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with Molybdenum Bisulphite for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating, used in Formula One engines, offers increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating for extended durability. This piston is 54.95mm with a +1.00mm oversize.
