Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon content depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, then refined with a high-tech heat treatment. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and diamond tools for specific surface finishes. Each Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. Vertex has also introduced a new Phosphate Coating which increases hardness and provides superior adhesion and durability compared to Molybdenum Coating. This single ring race piston has a 66.35mm bore.
