Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging, with material structure refined by heat treatment in an automatic HT implant with hot water quench. Machining is completed using CNC machines, software, and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Each Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Pistons are coated with a black Molybdenum Bisulphite coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. A new Phosphate Coating provides increased hardness and surface porosity for superior adhesion and durability of the Molybdenum Coating.
