KTM SX 125 1987-1993 GRADE C 54.21mm FLAT TOP
Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon, depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, with material structure refined through advanced heat treatment. Machining is completed using CNC machines and diamond tools, allowing for specific surface finishes based on the application. Each Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating offers increased hardness and light surface porosity for superior adhesion and durability. This piston is 54.21mm flat top.

FULL DESCRIPTION
Vertex High Performance Flat Top Piston
Engineered for precision and reliability, the Vertex Grade C Flat Top Piston is designed to restore engine performance and maintain internal tolerances. Utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques and premium-grade aluminium alloys, this piston provides a durable solution for high-demand riding conditions.
Advanced Material Technology
Vertex pistons are constructed from Low-Expansion (Low-Ex) aluminium alloys with specific silicon charging, depending on the application. This material composition minimizes thermal expansion, ensuring consistent clearance and optimal engine efficiency. Each piston undergoes a sophisticated heat treatment process, featuring solubilization and quenching, to refine the material structure for maximum strength.
Precision Engineering and Coatings
The manufacturing process employs state-of-the-art CNC machinery and diamond-tipped tooling to achieve exacting surface finishes. To enhance longevity and performance, each piston features:
- Molybdenum Bisulphite Coating: A specialized black coating that assists during the initial break-in period and actively reduces internal friction.
- Phosphate Coating: Drawing from Formula One engine technology, this layer provides a slight hardness increase and surface porosity, which improves the adhesion and durability of the molybdenum coating.
Key Features
- Grade C Sizing: Precisely machined to a 54.21mm diameter to suit specific cylinder bore requirements.
- Flat Top Design: Engineered to maintain correct compression ratios and combustion chamber geometry.
- Rigorous Quality Control: Every unit passes through comprehensive manual and automatic inspections to meet strict quality standards.
- Enhanced Durability: Designed to withstand the rigors of high-performance engine cycles, extending the service life of your top-end rebuild.
