Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, with material structure refined through a hi-tech Heat Treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. This heat treating process is cutting edge technology for these aluminium alloys. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software, with diamond tools used to achieve specific surface finishes for the final application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid during break-in and reduce friction. A new, all over Phosphate Coating has also been introduced, which has a slight hardness increase combined with light surface porosity for superior adhesion qualities of the Molybdenum Coating, extending coating durability. This piston is Grade A, 95.96mm with 12.0:1 standard compression.
