Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes and refined through a heat treatment process in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. Vertex has also introduced a new Phosphate Coating that increases hardness and offers superior adhesion qualities for the Molybdenum Coating, extending durability. This piston has a bore of 77.96mm and a compression ratio of 14.1:1.
