Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminum alloys with 12%, 18%, or 21% silicon content. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, followed by a heat treatment process with solubilization by quenching in hot water. Machining is done using CNC machines and diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes for each application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous quality control. Pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating is also available, offering increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion and durability of the Molybdenum Coating. This piston is 77.96mm with a 14.9:1 compression ratio.
