Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18%, or 21% silicon content depending on the application. They are produced using gravity cast or hydraulic forging, followed by a high-tech heat treatment process. Machining is performed on the latest CNC machines using diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes. Each piston undergoes rigorous quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating, similar to Formula One engine developments, is also available, offering increased hardness and superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating for enhanced durability.

The Vertex G.P. Racers Choice piston is engineered for riders who demand peak performance and reliability. Designed with a high 13.9:1 compression ratio, this piston is precision-machined to meet the exacting requirements of racing applications, providing an optimal upgrade for your engine build.
Vertex utilizes exotic Low-Ex silicon-charged aluminium alloys, chosen for their superior thermal stability and durability. The manufacturing process incorporates either gravity casting or hydraulic forging, followed by an advanced heat-treatment cycle to refine the material structure for maximum strength under high-stress conditions.
Advanced Engineering and Surface Treatment
Every piston is manufactured using state-of-the-art CNC technology and diamond tooling to ensure precise dimensions and surface finishes. To further enhance performance and engine longevity, Vertex has integrated industry-leading coating technologies:
- Molybdenum Bisulphite Coating: A specialized black coating that assists during the critical break-in period and significantly reduces friction within the cylinder.
- Phosphate Coating: Borrowing technology from Formula One, this coating provides a slight increase in surface hardness and introduces light surface porosity. This creates superior adhesion for the Molybdenum layer, effectively doubling the durability of the piston coatings.
