Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, with material structure refined via a hi-tech Heat Treatment process in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. This heat treating process utilizes cutting-edge technology for aluminium alloys. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes depending on the piston's final application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction within the cylinder. Following Formula One engine developments, Vertex has introduced a new Phosphate Coating which offers increased hardness and surface porosity for superior Molybdenum Coating adhesion and durability.
