Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex (low expansion) Silicon aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, then refined using heat treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. This heat treating process uses cutting edge technology for these aluminium alloys. The machining process is completed using the latest CNC machines and software, as well as diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes depending on the final application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break in and reduce friction. Vertex has also introduced a new Phosphate Coating which has a slight hardness increase and light surface porosity for superior adhesion qualities of the Molybdenum Coating, extending coating durability. This is a Grade B, 66.35mm twin ring replica piston.
