Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes and then refined using a high-tech heat treatment. This process involves solubilization by quenching in hot water. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools. Each Vertex piston undergoes a rigorous manual and automatic quality control process. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. Vertex has also introduced a new Phosphate Coating which has increased hardness and exhibits superior adhesion qualities of the Molybdenum Coating, extending durability. This piston is Grade C and has a diameter of 71.96mm.
