Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys charged with 12% 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Vertex pistons are manufactured using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes and then the material structure is refined using a hi-tech heat treatment. This heat treating process uses cutting edge technology for aluminium alloys. The machining process is completed using the latest CNC machines and software along with diamond tools. This high tech tooling achieves specific surface finishes depending on the final application. Every Vertex piston undergoes a rigorous manual and automatic quality control process. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid piston break in and reduce friction. Vertex has also introduced a new Phosphate Coating which has a slight hardness increase combined with a light surface porosity that exhibits superior adhesion qualities of the Molybdenum Coating, extending the coating durability. This cylinder has a 54.000mm bore and 0.8mm ring with a Nikasil bore.
