Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18%, or 21% silicon content depending on the application. They are made using gravity casting or hydraulic forging, followed by a heat treatment process in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is performed using the latest CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Each piston undergoes manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a black Molybdenum Bisulphite coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating, developed from Formula One engine technology, offers increased hardness, surface porosity, and superior adhesion for the Molybdenum Coating, doubling its durability. This Nikasil bore cylinder has a 53.97mm bore size.
